Love road trips? Love art? Then plan a weekend drive from Houston to Corpus Christi (psst, that’s my hometown!). There are many great places to see art along the way and when you arrive.
Corpus Christi offers numerous art venues, including the Art Museum of South Texas, Art Center of Corpus Christi, Cain Gallery at Del Mar College, K-Space Contemporary, and and Weil Gallery at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
Here is how I typically plan my drive to coincide with days and hours of operation for each:
On Friday, leave Houston by 7:00 AM and drive directly to Corpus Christi for your first stop at the Cain Gallery of Del Mar College (it closes at 12:00 PM, so you should arrive by 11:00 AM just in time). Grab lunch, then head over to the Weil Gallery of Texas A&M University Corpus Christi (it closes at 5:00 PM).
On Saturday, first visit the Art Center of Corpus Christi, then drive thirty minutes to Rockport to see what’s on view at the Rockport Center for the Arts. After lunch, head back to Downtown Corpus Christi to visit K-Space Contemporary and the Art Museum of South Texas.
On Sunday, after brunch, head to Victoria for stops at the Nave Museum and Five Points Museum of Contemporary Art.
