Silverlake Wine is expected to open its first DTLA retail store in a 2,570-sq.ft. building (built in 1928) formerly occupied by TD Beer & Wine at 1948 E. 7th St., Los Angeles, CA 90021 (corner of 7th and Mateo). Plans are also in the works for the former French Garden/Senor Fish space located at 1936 E. 7th St. Stay tuned as details are sure to be uncovered by the stealth members and observers of the popular Los Angeles Downtown Arts District Facebook Group.
UPDATE: Sure enough, additional information and a link with job postings emerged from the FB group after I published this post that reveal both spaces are by the team behind Silverlake Wine and Everson Royce. According to their Craigslist ad, here’s info on their second space: “ERBar is a modern cocktail bar and restaurant, without the pretense of a ‘cocktail cathedral.’ … offering a strong cocktail program, a diverse and memorable wines by the glass selection, a broad array of small-production craft beers on draught and in bottles, a significant non-alcoholic beverage program, and a food program which is accessible, flavorful, and high-quality.” In addition, there is a 1,200-sq.ft. retail space in the middle at 1938 E. 7th St., which remains in question as to its use, either as part of the market or the proposed cocktail bar and restaurant.
Bill Chait plans to open a new market AND another restaurant in the Arts District in addition to Petty Cash Taqueria in the former Fifty Seven restaurant space on Santa Fe Ave.:
- 500 S. Mateo St., Los Angeles 90013: This 12,682-square-foot, one-story brick building (adjacent to 4th Street Bridge with 210 seats inside and 214 seats outside in a 4,818-square-foot patio) will house Verve Coffee Roasters with java and juice drinks, an ice cream shop, a bakery from husband-and-wife pastry chefs Carolyn Nugent and Alen Ramos, and a market with freshly prepared foods and staple items.
- 515 S. Molino St., Los Angeles 90013: This unnamed restaurant will be helmed by Republique chef Walter Manzke and housed in a 6,500-square-foot space with 900-square-foot uncovered patio as part of the Barker Block complex.

Founded in 2001 (and residing in the Bradbury Building until 2003), the A+D Architecture + Design Museum returns to Downtown Los Angeles after 12 years at its current Miracle Mile location near LACMA. This time, the museum comes to the Arts District and hopes to open in time to host their annual “Celebrate” benefit gala in their new building on Saturday, June 27. An unnamed retail store partner just inked a deal to share the space with the museum.
