Blue Bottle Coffee Company Takes Over Handsome Coffee Roasters
Standing in line for coffee this morning, I heard the news about the purchase of the two-year-old Arts District roaster. PPPSSTT … look what’s coming! I’ve always said that the “Arts District is like Venice, but without the beach” so it was inevitable that not only do we have local businesses like Würstkuche opening in Venice, we now have Venice businesses coming to the Arts District. Oscar Hermosillo — proprietor of Venice Beach Wines, Cerveteca, and Cerveteca Boardwalk — is set to take over the now-shuttered R-23 Sushi & Lounge space and plans to open Cerveteca Downtown sometime this summer combining its “L.A. food with a Latino flair” menu with charcuterie, cheese and wine selections. Let’s hope that they serve brunch like they do in Venice!
New Coffee Bar on 3rd Street

Los Angeles 90013
Since the March announcement of this new Arts District coffee bar (a collaboration by Tyler Wells formerly of Handsome Coffee Roasters with Würstkuche team Joseph Pitruzzelli and Tyler Wilson), construction seems on track with what is expected to be a soft opening in April without advance notice. This 250-sq-ft space promises to pack a lot of punch by utilizing the outdoor sidewalk area (newly enhanced with trees) and a new doorway that provides direct access into Alchemy Works.
