HAPPENING ON FEBRUARY 10, 2024 at 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM: Art League Houston hosts a block party with live music and artisan vendors as a closing event to celebrate its four exhibitions. Support artists and enjoy a concert by musicians who inspired two of artist Doug Welsh’s paintings in his exhibition “re-rite.”
MAIN GALLERY: “Chris Sauter: Inhaling the Spore” – Drawn from parasitology and internet imagery, drawings and sculptures touch on the role neurotransmitters and hormones play in the development of belief and how they relate to self and national identity.
FRONT GALLERY: “Carris Adams: And so it goes …” – Site-specific graphite wall drawings and large-scale painted collages point to disappearing pasts, precarious presents, and unknown futures.
HALLWAY GALLERY: “Doug Welsh: re-rite” – Accompanied by music (often a single song on loop), the artist created paintings; each considered complete at one point, and then not, as he chose to re-enter each painting and re-rite his creative process to re-resolve the artworks.
SCULPTURE GARDEN: “Marley Foster: Flag Diary – What Protects” – Witness and help create a community quilt that tests how they help process the personal while also speaking the language of public discourse. An existing side of the quilt will be installed and the public is invited to create patches to create a new side that will eventually be assembled into a single, fully realized quilt.
