I am MUSED.
ON VIEW: Houston artist Anne Herrera reveals complexities and raw aspects of life, through her beautifully crafted abstract multi-media artworks using materials such as silk, plaster, paint and paper now installed at the Asch Building in the Heights.
Herrera shares: “After several years of developing and strengthening my technical skills in drawing and painting, I have now begun to let go of all constraints, and create by tapping into my innermost self. I have abandoned the figurative image and embraced pure expression. Through texture, color, shape, line, form, and space, my abstract mixed-media pieces embody baffling human emotions such as fear, anxiety, anger, and love. They are the result of many years of repressing those emotions. Eventually, the truth is exposed. Cracked is the manifestation of my truth. To me, the pieces in this series are ugly and beautiful…. covered in rough scar-tissue, glossed over with gold, and wrapped in silk. They are full of conflict and controlled chaos.”
