ART EXHIBITS: So Many Styles, I am a Group Show” at Box13 ArtSpace

January 12 - February 10

ON VIEW THRU FEBRUARY 10, 2024: Four exhibitions, one space!

Front BOX: Raul Rene Gonzalez‘s “So Many Styles, I Am A Group Show” features new works in painting, sculpture, drawing, and performance influenced by the artist’s interests in work, play, family, music, and Houston. The title of the show is inspired by two well-known artists, Lil Wayne and Rachel Hecker. It combines lyrics from the song “Miss Me” by Drake and Lil Wayne, where Wayne states “Man, I got so many styles, I am a group” and Hecker who shared in a past exhibition: “I want to give myself more permission to do whatever occurs to me without reservation.”

Back BOX: The paintings in Michael Hubbard‘s “Soft Animal” reflect the nonbinary artist’s expression of their own fluid gender identity. The gooey flowing stickiness of paint is an ideal medium for playing with the ambiguities and contradictions present in the experience and perception of gender.

Window BOX:  Charlie King‘s “Executive Dysfunction (ing)” installation explores the intricate aspects of executive dysfunction. This is often associated with neurodiversity, mental illness, and the human experiences in today’s consumerist, fast-paced society.

Upstairs BOX: Jennifer Seo‘s “Bab Geuleus” features delicate paper sculptures inspired by everyday objects found in family photographs to celebrate their minutia and their monotony taken for granted in their original form.
