ART OPENING: “Ray Dunlap: Diary of an Abductee”

August 10 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

ON VIEW THRU SEPTEMBER 9, 2023: This exhibition features about 50 drawings and paintings by Ray Dunlap that explore the line between dreams and imagination versus reality. In the artist’s dreams, he has vivid experiences of “being abducted” by otherworldly beings and when he wakes, he is compelled to document that experience. The lines represent dream REM frequencies. The dreams are so intense that the REM frequencies are expressed through his drawings.

As part of the ECG solo show exhibition, Dunlap will also be instructing a free live art modeling class on Thursday, August 17 at 6:00 PM thru 8:00 PM at Sabine Street Studios. It is open to all, including those who do not have drawing experience.

The exhibition is on view in a new gallery space called East Corridor Gallery (ECG) founded by Justin Earl Grant and Alexander Squier with the main purpose of celebrating the “line” as an essential element in the visual arts. Dunlap is one of 11 artists featured in six exhibits planned by ECG during 2023. Each are challenged to think of the many shapes a line can take, as well as its emotions and meanings.
