ON VIEW THRU DECEMBER 31, 2023: Known for her minimalist color-focused paintings, Ruth Pastine explores the experience of color in luminous paintings and multi-panel installations.

The California-based artist engages the three complementary color systems which, although seemingly finite, access limitless possibility. Working serially is an essential aspect of her creative process as she evolves her oil paintings in concert with and in juxtaposition to one another furthering the interaction of color.

Pastine creates paintings for direct experience and heightened perception through resonant color relationships, lending itself to existential inquiry and her philosophical interests in the sublime. Pastine continues to evolve pure abstraction and follows the concepts of Minimalist theory, transcending the materiality of the hand- painted surfaces she produces an image that is both objective and dematerialized.

Born and raised in New York City, Pastine is recognized for her Neo-minimalist color field paintings advancing the seminal Light & Space movement emerging from Southern California in the 1960s.
