ON VIEW THRU OCTOBER 19 2023: Artist Jamie Ho uses the commercial language of product photography to catalog historical Chinese and Chinatown objects to challenge the ways that Euro-America conflates objects to East Asiatic femininity, and generalizes Asian culture. Through formal and material interventions, she shares her infinite gestures for finding luck drawn from her mother’s imprecise knowledge of ancestral Chinese traditions and rituals. Drag, the lighting studio and the aesthetics of Camp are used to reimagine Chinese marriage ceremonies to call into question patriarchal notions of gender.
