ON VIEW FEBRUARY 21 – MARCH 31, 2024: Laura Rathe Fine Art presents “Man Made | Paul Rousso and Matt Devine,” a celebration of the artistic prowess by two visionaries who bring unique perspectives to the world of contemporary art. The utilization of heat and physicality to manipulate raw materials being fundamental to their practices. The exhibition explores the intersection of nature and human innovation, creating a dialogue between the organic and the crafted.
Recognized for his mastery of manipulating polystyrene into three-dimensional artworks, Rousso debuts works that challenge perceptions of materiality. His new mirrored color abstracts have a coating that appear glasslike and as of seen through a kaleidoscope at first glance. The works invite viewers to explore the depth and complexity of everyday objects, transforming the mundane into the extraordinary.
In contrast, Devine’s metal sculptures convey a harmonious balance between strength and grace. Often characterized by fluid lines and geometric precision, his creations evoke a sense of movement and transformation. Devine’s sculptures, though made from powerful, organic materials, appear weightless in any environment, as if they could float away.
