ON VIEW THRU FEBRUARY 18, 2024: The latest iteration of “The Founders Round” opens at Project Row Houses during the nonprofit’s 30th anniversary celebration on Saturday, October 14, 2023.

Each of the seven Art Houses will be dedicated to a founder. In 1993, seven visionary African-American artists working in Houston recognized the potential in the block-and-a-half of derelict shotgun houses at the corner of Holman and Live Oak: James Bettison (1958-1997), Bert Long, Jr. (1940-2013), Jesse Lott (1943-2023), Rick Lowe, Floyd Newsum, Bert Samples, and George Smith.

From 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, artists and curators of each Art House will give porch talks in front of their installations, delving into the rich history and inspiration.

From 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM, the celebration continues as a block party where attendees get immersed in the vibrant culture of Third Ward. A day filled with good vibes, interactive activities, and guest performances, support local artisans, enjoy delicious bites from food trucks, and be a part of history by leaving a message in the Ar(t)chives on The Row memory booth.
