ART EVENT: “Borges and Texas | A Celebration of Art & Literature”

This one-night event at Rice University honors Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges with a panel discussion and an exhibition of three-dimensional works about the poet created by 20 Texas artists, including a cast bronze bust sculpture of Borges by Argentine sculptor Carlos Benavídez to be donated to the Houston Public Library.

The 20 artists are Miguel Angel Avila, Andres Bardon, Pablo Bobbio, Susan Budge, Marie Casamayor, Sandra De La Rosa, Kelley Devine, Silvia Felizia, Marina Fernandez, Geraldina Interiano Wise, Ernesto Leon, Michele Matamoros, Cassie Moonwiick, Armando Rodriguez Robledo, Caroline Ryan, Graciela Socorro, William H. Soller, Sarah Sudhoff, Nohelia Vargas, and Hank Waddell.

The panel of local and international experts on Borges includes Gwendolyn Diaz-Ridgeway Ph.D, writer and Professor Emerita at St. Mary University; Daniel Bonevac Ph.D, American philosopher and professor at University of Texas at Austin; Nicolas Shumway, professor at Rice University and former dean of the School of Humanities; and Fernando Flores, sociologist, journalist, writer, and Vice-President of the Jorge Luis Borges International Foundation in Buenos Aires.
