ART OPENING: “Lil’ Man and the Power of Super Position | Omari Hashim Cato”

August 12 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Free

ON VIEW THRU OCTOBER 22, 2023: Houston-based artist Omari Hashim Cato investigates the commodification of black bodies and culture in this exhibition that draws from his street art and life experience. The artist skillfully employs a striking palette of red, black, ochre, white, and blue, expertly weaving his visual literacy into a posterized style of imagery that prompts viewers to question the commercial representation of what many box in as experiences of Black life in the Southern United States. At the heart of this body of work lies a poignant exploration and dedication to the artist’s childhood without a father, personified in the life of conceptual, yet familiar superhero, Lil’ Man, who inhabits Cato’s creative universe.
