SAVE THE DATES: Sunrise/Sunset exhibit opens 4/10; aMUSEd exhibit opens 4/4 (reception later in April); and Arts District in Bloom exhibit opens 4/26.
Since December 2013, my previously private pursuit of documenting the Arts District has become very public, changing my life in many ways. Starting with a limited, now national, release of my new book MUSE-ings: Snapshots of the Arts District, Downtown Los Angeles, I’ve been privileged to participate in six gallery shows to date, including one that I also curated at Art Share L.A., which featured paintings by artists who reinterpreted my photographs. Happily, with over 1,000 guests, the show broke attendance records for the nonprofit gallery. This month, my work is featured in three public shows. Attendance is free, unless otherwise noted, so please come, and if you can, share the news below with your friends, too!
P.S. If you haven’t purchased my book yet, for a limited time, you can buy SIGNED copies that include a complimentary 8″ photographic print ($25 value) EXCLUSIVELY at participating Downtown retailers! Support local businesses and buy your copy today at The Pie Hole, Woo Souvenir Shop, and Raw Materials Art Supplies.

Welcoming a new day and the promise of one yet to come is the theme of my latest exhibition. Twenty 20″x20″ prints were chosen with the support of cinematographer Jason Wawro who follows my Downtown Muse work online. For the first time, I’ve printed large-scale images of my otherwise small iPhone photographs; the latter of which most of you know that I publish on the fly immediately after taking them. Also on view are two dozen new and favorite selections from my book.

aMUSEd: Paintings of the Arts District Inspired by Downtown Muse
Art Squared Gallery in Pershing Square • Downtown Los Angeles
Tuesday, April 8 through Monday, May 5, 2014 • 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily
I’ve curated this outdoor exhibition showcasing the work of six local artists who created paintings as re-interpretations of my photographs. Featured artists and paintings are “Purple Tree on 2nd Street” by Kikki Eder, “Yellow Table in the Alley” by Christian Hernandez, “Sansho’s Lament” by Miriam Jackson, “5th Street Dawn” by Bonnie Lambert, “Downtown Muse I” by Sandy Rodriguez, and “Zone” by Roderick Smith. For this show, artworks have been printed as 8.5′ x 8.5′ large-scale digital images and are displayed near an information panel with companion photographs by me. This exhibit is supported by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks and is also viewable from the corner of 6th & Hill (southeast corner of the park). Arts District in Bloom: Photographs by Downtown Muse
on view during Artisanal LA 2014 Spring Show
Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27 • 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
$12 in advance | $15 at the door
Most downtown areas might be described as gray, colorless, and devoid of greenery. My new series of photography defies that notion with colorful images of blooms in the Arts District surrounded by brightly painted walls adorned by street art. I’ll also have a booth during the show where I’ll be selling other prints and signing copies of my book. To learn more and to buy tickets in advance, visit Artisanal LA’s website.
