I recently stumbled across this YouTube video entitled The Los Angeles Arts District: Maintaining Identity in Transition featuring Ryan C. Williams’ presentation of his Spring 2014 thesis for the UCLA Extension Landscape Architecture program.
After participating in the Los Angeles Conservancy Arts District history and architecture tour last fall (click HERE to download a PDF of the tour program), Williams was inspired to reimagine the vacant lot near SCI-Arc (950 E. 3rd Street, Los Angeles, CA 90013). His vision as expressed verbally and visually is well worth your time in listening and seeing.
You can read more about Williams’ presentation and download his storyboards by clicking HERE. During his presentation, he mentions Uncommon Ground, which is a series of community planning workshops that have taken place in the Arts District. Three have taken place to date — March 23, 2003, July 22, 2006 (led by SCI-Arc and reported on by Ed Fuentes, and March 24, 2012. Uncommon Ground IV is currently in the process of being organized for Fall 2014.
