WED 11.15.2023 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM “Loneliness | The Archetype of Modern Man” at Steinway Selection Center is the first of four multi-disciplinary programs in this series. The theme of loneliness over the past century is enacted through visual and musical performances by tenor Zachary Averyt, philosopher/artist Jeanette “Joy” Harris, visual artist Heather L. Johnson, and pianist/writer Elizabeth Newkirk. The series features a philosophical narrative shared through classical music and visual art, with each program exploring a condition of modern man: loneliness, self-reliance, Americanism, and nihilism.
WED 01.31.2024 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM “Self-Reliance | The Archetype of Modern Man” features performances by violinist Antonio Cevallos and pianist Elizabeth Newkirk with philosopher David Liakos.
WED 03-27-2024 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM “Americanism | The Archetype of Modern Man” features pianist and writer Elizabeth Newkirk exploring Americanism through the American Archetype, Gershwin’s “An American in Paris” accompanied by the world premiere of a work by composer Stephen Webb.
WED 05.22.2024 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM “Nihilism | The Archetype of Modern Man” features author and professor of Religious Thought Jeffrey Kripal with insights on nihilism accompanied by a performance of Arnold Schoenberg’s string sextet “Verklärte Nacht.”
